Connected World Blog Post #1

North America

Last week, we were assigned countries and different issue topics. My country is North America, which includes only the USA, Mexico, and Canada (not the Caribbean) and my issue topic is about war & conflict. We were to follow different blogger that live in our assigned region. But not necessarily talking about the same topic.

This week, I read a blog post by Maya Norton titled Rally Threatens Jewish Students at York University where it talks about Jewish people being kicked out of their university campus in Canada, one of the only 3 countries of North America. This clearly shows evidence that the country does have some racism and prejudice against Jewish people. By reading comments on the post, It is very clear that this does not mean at all that all Canadians are like that. The commenter wrote something like “Pathetic, shameful, childish and irresponsible behavior.” and “It’

s decidedly un-Canadian.” I later found out that the blogger was not a Canadian, she writes about mostly about Israel, Israeli people, and Jews. But it was nice to know about the rally at York University in Toronto, Canada.

Since Maya Norton was not always writing about north America, I decided to follow a different blogger. Later, I found a blog post by Eduardo Avila this time, even though he is Bolivian – American, He has something to tell us from the other country in north America, Mexico. The post I found was titled Anti-Kidnapping Expert is Kidnapped which explains about how an Anti-Kidnapping expert was kidnapped by masked gunmen. This event explains that in Mexico, even the anti-crime experts are kidnapped. How is the country going to protect their people? This post is both about north America, and my topic WAR & CONFLICT.

Last but not least, a post about the U.S.A., titled Activists Incensed after Fatal Shooting by Police blogged by Bernardo Parrella, from new Mexico, U.S.A. where he writes about a 22 year-old innocent man named Oscar Grant on a subway BART train station in Oakland, California which later, different videos and blogs spread, which ensues to the campaigns for justice.

I can’t believe people were kicked out of their university just because they’re Jewish. That is so incredulous and so racist! It’s just so unbelievable that they did that, especially now that the public knows about it.
